About the Author
Harvey Storm is an emerging children's book author, artist, adventurer, and entrepreneur who splits his time between two homes: Portugal and Israel. Deeply influenced by the works of world-acclaimed author Herluf Bidstrup, his books feature exciting adventures of animals both friendly and timid. Growing up, Harvey felt compelled to become a writer and artist from an early age. When other children his age played with toy cars, dolls, or soccer balls, he would spend hours in his room doodling and jotting down random ideas that would pop into his mind. Since he was in grade school, he knew writing would someday become his vocation. Outside of crafting children's stories, Harvey is an avid businessman who has launched many successful companies. During his spare time, he enjoys jamming on his electric Gibson guitar, mountain climbing, spearfishing, camping, and drawing. As a passionate explorer, he has traveled to ten different countries to date, imparting him with the unique inspiration he needs to create interesting plots, engaging storylines, and relatable characters. With books for children, I try to keep my review short and sweet. Well, sometimes short, but not always so sweet...The artwork in "Woody Saves The Day" is as good as any I have shared with my kids, nephews and nieces. Definitely five star.The story arc, although quite fantastical, is cheerful, upbeat and interesting. Yes, fantastical: mice scare plenty of women across the planet not because folks think they eat lions, bears and elephants, but not is not important for a toddler, so I will just state that I loved the story arc as much at 66 as I would have at 3 or 4 years of age.So, why only four stars? Near the end there is a page that is very confusing and, for me, is not necessary anyway. It would be better to let the person reading the story discuss the lessons learned. To avoid a spoiler, yet to ensure that my reasoning is somewhat clear, you can view the attached photo to see for yourself.Otherwise, though, this is a great book for the younger kids. It would make a great birthday, or Christmas gift.I am writing a book for aspiring reviewers and for product suppliers seeking reviews in an effort to help improve the process and to understand the value of Amazon’s Customer Review process. Woody, a tiny mouse, lives in a cave by himself. All the animals that live around him fear Woody. Why would these animals wait in long lines to bring fruit and treats to this small mouse? Why do animals with so much power fear and respect Woody? It is rumored that this tiny creature somehow eats the animals and scatters the bones around the entrance to his cave.But one day a fox who lives in the nearby forest loses his way and seeks refuge from the rain in Woody's cave. This fox uncovers Woody's secret but decides to help Woody face the consequences of his actions. Will the wily fox's plan work?Woody learns a lot about himself and the creatures from which he has isolated himself. Young children learn the value of telling the truth and accepting responsibility for their actions.The illustrations are well-done and appealing to children in the three to seven-year-old age range. There are a couple of mazes to allow readers to interact with the story. My only criticisms are the frequent use of passive voice and the page reflecting on the value of truth, which is not written on the reader's age level.
My 3 year old sat through the entire book and commented on the different animals and scenery. She seemed to enjoy the book. She even added her own scenarios to elaborate on what would/could happen next or what might the animal(s) do next. She participated in the mazes. There is a part where the author writes that the fox has wool instead of fur and another typo right after that, "… there was a terrible noise that made his wool stood on end", where it should have read, "… made is fur stand on end.".Then, later in the book there was another grammatical error where a beaver is trying to warn the animals of the coming flood. He says, "Soon there will be flood here.", instead of "Soon there will be a flood here."Also, the next to the last page was confusing. I improvised on that one, since I wasn't really sure what the author was saying. I think the author was trying to say that it's best to be truthful at all times.My 3 year old was un-aware of any typos since I was reading and smoothed those over. I don't know if I'll let her practice reading with this book with the typos or not. I guess I could use it to test her when the time is right.
A beautifully illustrated moral lesson in being honest rather than compromising yourself. The characters in this story are various animals with a mouse and fox being the two main ones. The mouse has all the other animals afraid of him, and they bring him gifts of food to appease him. But what the little mouse doesn't have is friends.With the help of the fox, the mouse appeals to the other animals for forgiveness. When danger is near, the mouse becomes a hero.
My granddaughter at four years old is becoming a pretty good book reviewer. At the end, she said this was a pretty good story. The was perfect for her age, and even though it was a little long, she was rivited to the end.
The artwork is absolutely beautiful. But sadly the story, though interesting by concept, is clumsily told with what seems to be mistranslations. A fox does not have wool, for instance.
Woody Saves the Day has lots of cute pictures and an interesting story that will hold a child's attention. There is even a couple of simple mazes to do as part of the story.
Woody Saves the Day is a cute picture book with terrific illustrations about a clever, tricky mouse. The story has a positive moral for kids too.
