This hymnal is a good companion volume to the UMC Hymnal and The Faith We Sing. It contains most of the rest of the hymns from the old Cokesbury Hymnal, the old EUB Hymnal, and some from the Lutheran Church Book of Praise. It also contains some recent popular praise tunes, many of which I do not recognize. If you are a singer who wants to expand your musical references in the UMC then this is a good book to have. Like in The Faith We Sing, I wish more of the tunes had the harmonies included, but if you listen to the accompanist, you can pick them out to fill in the sound of Praise. Enjoy making a Joyful Noise.
I find that this is an excellent sequel to the Faith We Sing with new praise songs and some older songs included. The harmonies for choir are OK and some of the newer pieces do not have the harmony. As with a lot of poetic license, some of the rhythms are not as accurate to the original pieces with the newest praise songs, but they are a place to start with tweaking completed by listening to the recordings of the original performers. This is just in time to fill in the gaps with newer music composed after FWS.
I am so excited to use this in worship! The leaders edition has larger print so that you can see what's printed well leading. The songs and new prayers are wonderful and are from so many varied sources. I am not very musically gifted but the songs look easy to sing, and reflect the songs that want to be sung today. But what makes this version top noch in my book are the wonderful indexes in the back that describe each song and have suggested themes (advent, celebration, confirmation, lent, ect.) to help you plan. I think that this will become just as loved as the UMC hymnal.
Great Resource for Christian worship. This book has many of the new and popular praise hymns that have already become traditions in many of our churches.
Disappointing in the number of new worship songs. More old gospel and camp meeting tunes. Also would like a better piano edition.
Half the price of the book was a restocking fee when the book was returned in excellent, new condition. It never said anything about their being a restocking fee - especially of that amount!
As an accompanist, having this sturdy, bound version of Worship & Song makes playing for others less work. The spiral bound pages are easy to turn and the size of the pages are easily readable.
Very Nice, it's just what I needed.
