This book is amazing!! I'm converting to Judaism, and my Rabbi recommended a few books for me to read to start the process - and out of all of them, this was by far my favorite. The tone is candid, knowledgeable, and warm. I learned a lot, but not in a boring way. It was an easy read that I was actually excited to pick up!
Excellent book for Jews to read and learn. And for those contemplating conversion to Judaism. Very God style.
My husband and I are both men and he discovered Judaism through our engagement and eventual marriage and chose to convert. The sponsoring rabbi from our temple recommended this and it's a fantastic read. My husband and I both have learned a lot from this book.

I love this book. I consider myself a fairly well educated Jew and as such have found few books that explain Judaism in a clear, distinctive and easy to read fashion. Rabbi Kushner writes an explanation that is historical, philosophical and ethical. He leaves the door wide open to further research without becoming weighty and/or Talmudic. This is the fourth or fifth time that I have purchased this book to offer as gifts to friends and acquaintances wanting to know more.
I gave this as a gift to my very good friend who is Jewish & struggling with the death of her elderly Mother. She had been taking care of her the last five years. She said this is an easy book to use with many helpful chapters it's making her transition from now not having a job to looking for a job much easier as well as lifting the depression she has been experiencing.
