The book does an excellent job discussing the games and how they were played. It also gives some interest tidbits on the famous personnel, such as Bob Eubanks, Bill Cullen, Wink Martindale, etc. The problem is a book that had such first hand knowledge by insiders should have gone deeper. Why did some of these well established shows such as Jeopardy, Concentration, Password, Dating Game, Newlywed Game suddenly run a ground? Why did Let's Make a Deal jump networks? What were the ratings for all the game shows for a season, not just the position and not just the top three. Why did some short-lived shows like Break the Bank (70's version) get cancelled quickly when it was the second highest rated game?Full bios of the men (and woman) behind the questions. What a treat to have these insights from people who were insiders, not simply someone doing analysis.Perhaps I am spoiled. Christopher Schemering's The Encyclopedia of TV Soap Operas does this and so much more. I was hoping this book would be a true companion to understand what daytime TV was in it's heyday, but this work pales in comparison.

I must admit that I'm only 13, but I watch Game Show network a lot! I found game shows in here that I never even heard of and ones I had forgotten about like "Press Your Luck"(used to be my favorite). Now I can show my friends these old game shows that I watch! This book has every game show thinkable and a little blurb about when it was started, syndicated, the rules, and the general description. Some even have highlights of certain moments. Very well done!
Very accurate, very informative, THE authoritative source on TV Game shows! One minor criticism is that the book is not as pictorial as it's previous edition and the numerous pictures really helped to enhance the game show information in the book. But it is nonetheless the BEST off-line game show source EVER!

I use this book constantly when I need info on my favorite game shows. I've noticed there are still a few inaccuracies but hopefully those will be updated in future editions as the TV game show makes a triumphant return

This is without a doubt, hands down, the best game show book ever! I purchased this several years ago at another bookstore and could not stop reading it from the moment I read page one. This has all the important details described about game shows from the past to the present (at the time 2000). The picures, layouts, and summaries add up to a fantastic reference book. Those of you pre-teens and young adults who missed the 70's and 80's shows--watch GSN and relive the classic days of when game shows were fun. I strongly and highly recommend that if you're a game show fanatic like me (pre-Reality show days) and you want to know all about what the game show era was like, GET...THIS...BOOK. You won't be disappointed.
